Workshop on “Materialität: magisch wirksame Schriftträger“ | 4–6 March, Philipps-Universität MarburgOur Associate Member Katja Triplett draws our attention to the inaugural workshop of an academic network recently approved by the German Research Foundation: "Wort – Wirkung – Wunder. Sprache und Macht in der Vormoderne zwischen Religion, Magie und Medizin" ("Word - Effect - Miracle. Language and Power in the Pre-Modern Era between Religion, Magic and Medicine"). The interdisciplinary academic network is investigating the cultural paradigms underlying the word-magical ideas of pre-modern societies with regard to the power of language and writing at the interfaces of religion, medicine and magic. The inaugural workshop will focus on a core aspect of the research subject: the materiality of written sources and artefacts used to exert influence on reality. Date: 4–6 April, Greifswald
