Exhibition: Scenes of Life: A Japanese Screen and its (hi)storiesA paravent from the GRASSI Museum für Völkerkunde was brought back from Japan in 1882 by the doctor Heinrich Botho Scheube and now it is being displayed for the first time to mark its restoration. The exhibition aims not only to make the paravents artistic and cultural-historical significance clear, but also to present the artisanal dimension of the conservation work. This work took place in collaboration with the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties. Indeed, transcultural cooperation is also central to the question of how ethical principles govern restoration in a 21st-century ethnological museum. This Saturday one of GRASSI's Live-Speakers presents the exhibition in English. You are welcome to get in touch, discuss and ask questions. Here you can have a look at the digital exhibition. The exhibition will be on display until 17 January 2021. 29 August, 1 p.m.
