Colloquium 19 June 2024 with Furkan DilbenOur Guest Researcher Furkan Dilben will give a presentation titled From Tawafuq to Coincidence, Renunciation of Five Daily Prayers: Experiences of Abandoning Religion and Secularization Processes of Religious Men Furkan Dilben’s dissertation focuses on the everyday life routines and secularization processes of males who were raised in Muslim families and communities, engaged in religious activities for over the years, but later gave up their religious way of life. The project, which includes in-depth interviews with 25 ex-Muslim male participants, intends to shed light on the rhythms and rituals of religious habitus by considering both Henri Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis approach and Pierre Bourdieu's habitus notion. The study aims to contribute to discussing on secularization in Turkey's 2000s, emphasizing the ordinary aspects of daily life and focusing on the transformative practices resulting from routine encounters. If scholars from outside the KFG "Multiple Secularities" wish to attend the colloquium remotely or on site, please send a short inquiry to multiple-secularities@uni-leipzig.de.
