Das Königreich Bhutan bekam als letztes Land der Welt Anschluss an Internet und Fernsehen, aber die größte Herausforderung von allen steht noch bevor: Demokratie. Um den Menschen beizubringen, wie man wählt, organisieren die Behörden eine Probewahl, aber die Bevölkerung scheint nicht überzeugt zu sein. Als der Wahlleiter ins ländliche Bhutan reist, wo Religion eine größere Rolle spielt als Politik, entdeckt er, dass ein Mönch eine geheimnisvolle Zeremonie für den Wahltag plant.

Im Anschluss an den Film gibt es die Möglichkeit zur Diskussion mit Dagmar Schwerk, Professorin für Tibetologie an der Universität Leipzig.

The Kingdom of Bhutan was the last country in the world to connect to the internet and television, and now the biggest callenge of all: democracy. To teach the people how to vote, the authorities organize a mock election, but the locals seem unconvinced. Travelling to rural Bhutan where religion is more popular than politics, the election supervisor discovers that a monk is planning a mysterious ceremony for the election day.

The film will be followed by a discussion with Dagmar Schwerk, Professor of Tibetology at Leipzig University.
