Reminder II

On 31 May the public talk of Zafer Yilmaz on The Authoritarian-Islamic Populism, Islamisation, and Politics of Welfare in Turkey will take place at Café Alibi (Bibliotheca Albertina, Beethovenstr. 6), 8:15 p.m. The lecture is organised by  Kornelia Sammet's project Worldviews of Unemployed People in cooperation with the KFG "Multiple Secularities".

 

CFP: The Place of Religion in the Enlightenment

The Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies (Halle/Saale) calls for papers for a conference on The Place of Religion in the Enlightenment.  Please send paper proposals of no more than 200 words along with a short (2 page) curriculum vitae to izea@izea.uni-halle.de before 30 June 2018. The program committee will communicate its decisions by 20 July 2018. The conference will take place 5-7 June 2019.

Public Lecture by Dipesh Chakrabarty

As part of the Halle Lectures 2018 on global thinking Dipesh Chakrabarty holds a lecture on The Difficulty of Being Modern: Thoughts on Global and Planetary Histories. The lecture tracks some of the ethical difficulties of being modern at a time when collective human aspirations carry planetary implications. In the process, the lecture brings into conversation some post-human and post-colonial perspectives on modernity. The talk takes place at Universitätsring, Aula im Löwengebäude (Universitätsplatz 10, Halle/Saale) on 25 June 2018, 6 p.m.
