Reminder: Upcoming Dates

On 28 November we present Tijana Krstic's public lecture on Islam in the Age of Confessionalization.

On 30 November the deadline for applications for Nader Sohrabi's workshop on Nationalism and Religion ends.

On 29 November and 06 December the internal reading group of the KFG will meet again (1-3 p.m.). The next readings are Birgit Meyer: Religion and Secular, Spiritual and Physical, in Ghana and Magnus Marsden: Living Islam (Introduction and Chapter 5 "Mahfils and musicians: new Muslims in Markaz“). Dies Academicus

On 4 December Leipzig University celebrates its (608th) birthday with the annual Dies Academicus. Among the many events there will take place:

A public lecture on "Christianity in China (Christentum in China)" by Prof. Dr. Horst Gründer (Münster University) at the Confucius Institute (Otto-Schill-Str. 1).

The Digital Humanities Day featuring Daniel Kinitz at Bibliotheca Albertina.

An exhibition on "Transformations from the university church to the Paulinum (Transformationen. Von der Universitätskirche zum Paulinum)" at Neues Augusteum, Foyer (Augustusplatz 10).

Unfortunately most of the events - as well as the Programme - are only in German.

Meeting Room

You can find a calendar at the door of our common meeting room (4.22) now, showing whether and when the room is occupied or available. Please talk to Johannes Duschka or Judith Zimmermann if you want to reserve the room in advance - we will then add the time and date to the calendar. The big display in the room can be used for skype-conferences, please contact us for further instructions.

 

Public Lecture: Theo-economics: Islamic prosperity theology and the question of the future in Indonesia

Dominik Müller's Emmy Noether Group - Bureaucratization of Islam at the MPI in Halle organises a guest lecture on "Theo-economics: Islamic prosperity theology and the question of the future in Indonesia" by Kostas Retsikas (SOAS, University of London) on 24 November, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Seminar Room (New Building) of the MPI.
