Next week’s Colloquium: Hansjörg Dilger on “Learning Morality, Inequalities, and Faith: Christian and Muslim Schools in Tanzania”, 26 OctoberNext Wednesday, our guest Hansjörg Dilger from Freie Universität Berlin will present his book “Learning Morality, Inequalities, and Faith: Christian and Muslim Schools in Tanzania”. These schools combine secular education with the moral (self-)formation of young people, triggering new realignments of the fields of education with interreligious co-existence and class formation in the country's urban centres. In his book, Hansjörg Dilger explores the emerging entanglements of faith, morality, and the educational market in Dar es Salaam, thereby shedding light on processes of religious institutionalization and their individual and collective embodiment. The colloquium will take place in a hybrid format (on-site and online). If you would like to join in person, please register for the colloquium via e-mail. In the Member Area you will find the relevant readings as well as information on the zoom connection data.

Conferene on “Christianity and Crisis in European Contexts”, 28–29 October, Lund/SwedenOur Senior Research Fellow Giuseppe Tateo draws our attention to an upcoming conference on “Christianity and Crisis in European Contexts” taking place in Lund from 28–29 October, where he will contribute with a presentation. This conference aims to investigate the place of Christianity – historically, theoretically, and practically – in Europe’s (and individual European countries’) ongoing challenges. Do these challenges constitute a crisis? If so, what kind of crisis does Europe face? What is the role of Christianity (actual, or possible) in exacerbating the challenges Europe faces, or in resolving them? Keynote speakers will be José Casanova, Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Religious Studies at Georgetown University, Cyril Hovorun, Professor of Ecclesiology, International Relations and Ecumenism at Saint Ignatios College in Stockholm, Valentina Napolitano, Professor of Anthropology at University of Toronto and Elizabeth Shakman Hurd, Professor of Political Science and Religious Studies, Northwestern University.
Venue: Helgonavägen 3 (LUX building), University of Lund/Sweden

Leipzig Jazz Days (Leipziger Jazztage) 2022Our director Monika Wohlrab-Sahr is recommending a closer look at The Leipzig Jazz Days (Leipziger Jazztage) 2022, which will take place from 22 to 29 October at a variety of venues throughout the city of Leipzig. With the overarching theme “Talkin ’bout my generation”, the 46th edition of the renowned festival will once again take place on numerous stages. As every autumn, the Jazzclub Leipzig presents over 100 musicians from the local Leipzig, German and international jazz scene. Big names in jazz, but also innovative newcomers, play in the venerable opera house and theatre, in churches, but also in trendy clubs and off-locations in the city.
