Project on “Utopian Worlds”What could a better world look like? A question that is always worth asking. So we are happy that our two associate members Silke Gülker and Silke Steets have taken up this question – or rather different answers to this question. In their current project "Utopian Worlds" the two social scientists collect and present together with two artists ideas about a better world in pictures and stories from people all over the world on the website utopian-worlds.org and on Instagram @utopian_worlds. The project is part of the 40th Congress of the German Sociological Association, which will take place in September in digital form. Utopian world concepts are also a recurring topic in the sociological and philosophical discourse on religion. The aim of the project is to reconstruct the ideas of good self-, world- and social relations contained in utopian world views – and thus to sound out the current potential of utopian thinking for social criticism. At its core it is a participatory online exhibition and your support would be greatly appreciated. So feel free to participate in the collection yourself and invite your colleagues, family and friends to do so, too.

Culinary Film Screening: "Fried Green Tomatoes" at AnnalindeFrom 21 to 26 August the small Culinary Cinema Festival brings great cinema and good food to places that have something to do with food in the city and the countryside. While dishes are freshly prepared by local chefs using produce from regional suppliers, films are shown, which – among other things – deal with the passion for cooking and human solidarity. And next Tuesday there will be a film screening of "Fried Green Tomatoes" in the community garden Annalinde. The comedy-drama (USA, 1991) by Jon Avnet tells the story of a Depression-era relationship between two women, Ruth and Idgie, and a 1980s friendship between Evelyn, a middle-aged housewife, and Ninny, an elderly woman. Meanwhile, the best pizza in town will be freshly baked in the garden by the local pizzaria Pekar. Screening: 25 August, 8 p.m. (German without subtitles) Venue: Community Garden Annalinde
