New Article by Markus Dreßler

Markus Dreßler's paper on "Religion and Religious Tradition" (Religion und religiöse Tradition: Unterscheidungsdiskurse zu den Grenzen des Islams.) has been published in Zeitschrift für Religionswissenschaft 27 (1), S. 48-77 recently. The paper is concerned with the question of how to meaningfully represent, from a metalanguage position, object language discourses of religious differentiation within the Islamic tradition.

Lecture Series: Science and Faith in Judaism and Islam

The Jewish Museum Berlin hosts a lecture series on Science and Faith in Judaism and Islam. The series sets out to explore the tensions and affinities between Judaism, Islam, and the sciences. It hopes to supplement the narrative of conflict with other narratives showing that both religions’ theologies have engaged deeply and broadly with the sciences. The next lecture will be on 30 April,  5 p.m. on Humanity: Between Destiny and Free Will.

Movie: Mali Blues

Grassi Museum Leipzig hosts a screening of the movie “Mali Blues” (OmU, 2016) on 24 April. The movie shows how Malian Artists fight  for an open and tolerant Islam as profane music is increasingly prohibited by fundamentalist authorities. The screening starts at 7 p.m., entrance fee is 4€. The director will be present for discussions after the screening.

Yoko Ono at Leipzig Museum for Fine Arts

Japanese-American artist Yoko Ono presents her most extensive exhibition of works since her retrospective in the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt five years ago in Leipzig this spring. The exhibition is entitled “PEACE is POWER” and is open until 7 July 2019. If you consider to visit keep in mind that the entrance is free on every first Wednesday of the month.
