Nahid's Farewell

Nahid invites everyone to join her farewell dinner on 29 March 2017, 06:30 p.m. The dinner will replace the Eranos. It will take place at the Guest House of Leipzig University (Vor dem Hospitaltore 2). Please notify Johannes until 22 March whether you will join the farewell dinner.

 

Lecture Series: Critical Secular Studies

The Institute of Islamic Studies of Studies at Freie Universität Berlin organises a weekly lecture series on Critical Secular Studies ("Konfigurationen des Säkularen: Einblicke in die kritische Säkularismusforschung") in the summer semester. Among others Markus Dreßler and our prospective fellow Gudrun Krämer will contribute to this series. The KFG will reimburse travel costs for its employees, fellows and associated members who want to attend lectures of the series.

Solidarity with Purged Academics for Peace in Turkey

Markus wants to share a crowdfounding campaign for the purged Academics for Peace in Turkey. The goal is to establish an emergency fund for Academics for Peace to support the faculty who lost their jobs, pensions, and their right to travel abroad after the recent crackdown targeting academic freedom in Turkey. This fund will be made exclusively available to purged faculty through close collaboration with the union Egitim-Sen and other associations that are actively assisting the purged scholars at the local and international level.

Iranian youth get app to dodge morality police

In relation to our discussions about Iranian morality police after we watched the great movie "Football Under Cover" on Monday evening, Daniel would like to share a BBC article about an app to help young fashion conscious Iranians avoid the country's notorious morality police known in Persian as "Ershad" or guidance.
