International Workshop “Plural Protestantisms. Religious group formations in the 17th and 18th centuries”, 17–18 February at Freie Universität BerlinThe diversity of Protestantisms in the post-Reformation centuries is still largely reflected in problematic attributions that often have their origin in theological-polemical contexts of the time itself, including e.g. orthodoxy, pietism, syncretism, separatism. This workshop aims to open up a new perspective on the processes and practices of religious communication and group formation within German-speaking and European Protestantism in the 17th and 18th centuries. What practices and mechanisms were used to mark differences and create affiliations? What social relationships can be identified between different actors from supposedly divergent groups, even beyond theological-dogmatic classifications? How can the phenomena of a compulsion to standardize beliefs on the one hand and the ambiguity of communicative, social and religious practices in everyday life on the other be thought together? Registration is requested by 10 February via e-mail.
Freie Universität Berlin, Fabeckstr. 23-25 (Holzlaube), Room 2.2058
