Gaza Surf Club

The movie Gaza Surf Club will be shown at the Grassi Museum of Anthropology next Wednesday, 14 February, 7 p.m. The screening is part of the event series "Salam Deutschland - Islam im Grassi".

Welcome

We are happy to welcome Florian Zemmin from the University of Bern, who recently joined us as Senior Research Fellow. Florian will work on his project "Sociology in the Arabic World - towards a Genealogy of Secularity in Islam" in Leipzig from February to July 2018.

Farewell

Starting 1 February 2018, our former Senior Researcher Marian Burchardt holds the Professorship in Transregional Sociology at Leipzig University. Marian's new office is only one floor above the KFG - starting future collaborations should therefore not be a problem.

 

CfP: No country for anthropologists?

The international conference "No country for anthropologists? Contemporary ethnographic research in the Middle East" explores the obstacles to do ethnography in the Middle East and takes them as the starting point for reflection upon the role of anthropology with a view to the Middle East of today. The conference will be held in Zürich, 2-3 November 2018. Deadline for abstracts is 1 May 2018.
