We also want to remind you that the keynote of the KFG workshop “Sacred Places” with Karen Barkey will take place at Strohsackpassage, room 5.55 and NOT at the Research Academy.

Welcome Housam Darwish

This week we welcome Housamedden Darwish, Senior Researcher funded by the KFG. His current research is focused on “(Mis)Understanding Thick Normative Concepts. The (In)Compatibility between (Political) Islam and the Secular Paradigm”. On 14 December he will give a lecture with discussion about “Integration and the role of the state in religion” to honorary Imams of Brandenburg in Potsdam. The event is organized by The Regional Offices for Education, Integration and Democracy, Brandenburg (Regionale Arbeitsstellen für Bildung, Integration und Demokratie, Brandenburg).

 

Public Lecture I: Gudrun Krämer on Criticism of Islam

On Monday, 9 December, Gudrun Krämer (HU Berlin) who is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the KFG, will give a lecture on “Acuity and Blur: What is Criticism of Islam? (Schärfe und Unschärfe: Was ist Islamkritik?)”. The talk is part of the lecture series “Critique of Religion in Past and Present (Religionskritik in Geschichte und Gegenwart)”, organised by Horst Junginger. It will be in German.

Public Lecture II: Leibniz Professor İştar Gözaydın on Academic Freedom

On Tuesday, 10 December, former Leibniz Professor İştar Gözaydın will give a lecture on „Academic Freedom? Politics and Human Rights In Turkey“. She will talk about political history in Turkey, human rights, and her personal experiences. Gözaydın was appointed as Leibniz Professor in the spring term of 2018 but Turkish authorities denied her to leave the country.

Hans-Georg Ebert receives WGIT-Price 2019

Our Senior Research Fellow Hans-Georg Ebert has recieved the price of the Scientific Association for Islamic Theology (Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Islamsiche Theologie, WGIT) on 27 November 2019 in Osnabrück.
