“Women of the Wall” shake the premier Jewish pilgrimage site in Jerusalem

Omer Hacker and Nurit Stadler (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) comment on the the riots evoked by the ‘women of the wall’ on 8 March 2019 at Jerusalem's western wall (Kotel) for our Bulletin. They are examining the specific intersection of nationalism, religion and gender in this conflict between Orthodox and non-ortodox interpretations of Judaism.

 

Welcome and Farewell

We are happy to welcome six Senior Research Fellows starting or resuming their residencies in Leipzig this April: Matthew King (University of California, Riverside), Adrian Hermann (University of Bonn), Gert Pickel (Leipzig University), Nadja-Christina Schneider (Humboldt University of Berlin), Mirjam Künkler, and Neguin Yavari (New York). 

Edith Franke, who has been with us as for the last six month has left the KFG at the end of March. We wish her all the best and hope to see again soon!

 

 

Eduroam Changes

Those who use eduroam via their Leipzig University account will have to reconfigure their settings. The current settings will lose their validity between 6 May and 17 June 2019. Our IT assistant Robert will contact you in the coming weeks to update your settings.

Lecture Series on the Critique of Religion

Horst Junginger organises a weekly lecture series on the "Critique of Religion in Past and Present (Religionskritk in Geschichte und Gegenwart)" starting on 8 April. He will open the series with his lecture on "Critique of Religion from a Scientific and an Ideological Standpoint (Religionskritik aus wissenschaftlicher und weltanschaulicher Perspektive)" The lecture series will take place every Monday, 3.15 p.m. until 15 July in Lecture Hall 6 on the main campus (except 22 April and 10 June). The lectures will be held in German, no registration for listeners required.

Festival: GEGENkino

From 11-22 April the GEGENkino Film Festival #6 will take place in several cinemas in Leipzig. The festival aims to question film and its aesthetic means of expression, to bring overlooked gems of world cinema to Leipzig, to provide space on screen for resistant positions and marginalised narratives or projects. You can either pay for singular screenings or get a festival pass for 39€.
