Monika Wohlrab-Sahr will deliver a Midday Lecture on "Multiple Secularities: A Comparative Perspective on the Study of Religion and its Other" and take part in a final roundtable discussion at the workshop on "Secularities. Freethinkers in the Context of National Movements and the Rise of Nation States in Europe, 1789–1920s" of the DHI Rome from 21 to 23 March 2018.

Marian Burchardt appointed: Professorship for Transregional Sociology @ Leipzig University

Starting 1 February 2018 our former Senior Researcher Marian Burchardt - who has significantly contributed to the development of the concept of "Multiple Secularities" from the earliest stages - holds the Professorship in Transregional Sociology at Leipzig University.

Bibliotheca Arabica

On 1 February 2018 our former Senior Researcher Daniel Kinitz will start a new job with the project "Bibliotheca Arabica – A New History of Arabic Literature" at the Saxon Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Leipzig University. The project aims to develop and compile fundamental knowledge on literary and scientific production and practice between the 12th and 19th century.

Symposium: Urban Risk and Religion

Our Senior Researcher Marian Burchardt co-organises a Symposium on "Urban Risk and Religion: Economy, Health and Security" on 17 November 2017 at the University of Amsterdam. The workshop and books launch is a collaboration between the Center for Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam, the Department of Anthropology at Utrecht University and Leipzig University, involving researchers working in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
