Abdellah Hammoudi on the challenge of an ethnography of one's own society

Abdellah Hammoudi (Princeton University) will give a public seminar on "The Trouble of Alterity and Anthropology: the Challenge of an Ethnography of One's Own Society" at the Max Planck Institut for Social Anthropology, Halle (Main Seminar Room, Advokatenweg 36) on 24 January, 4:15 - 6 p.m. The seminar is part of the Joint Lecture Series of the MPI for Social Anthropology and the Seminar for Social Anthropology, MLU.

Lecture on Religion and Gender

Our prospective fellow Klaus Fitschen will present a lecture on Religion and Gender on 17 January, 5 p.m. in lecture hall 16 (Hörsaal 16, Universitätsstraße 3) of Leipzig University. The lecture "So God created man in his own image [...]; male and female he created them. - or why Religion is not meant to divide the world in blue and pink. (Gott schuf den Menschen zu seinem Bilde und schuf ihn männlich und weiblich. - oder warum Religion nicht dazu da ist, die Welt in Blau und Rosa einzuteilen.)" is part of a lecture series of the Equal Opportunity Office (Gleichstellungsbüro) of Leipzig University. The presentation will be held in German.

The Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt invites applications for up to three Junior Fellowships for Young Female Researchers/ Postdoctoral Scholars and up to four Scholarships for Guest Doctoral Students for research projects in the fields of Sociology, Religious Studies, History, Philosophy or Theology within the framework of the Kolleg Research Group “Religious Individualisation in Historical Perspective” directed by Prof. Dr. Martin Mulsow and Prof. Dr. Jörg Rüpke. The Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study in the Humanities “Law as Culture” (Bonn) hosts the workshop "Cultures of differentiation. Toward a cultural turn in differentiation theory" from 8 - 9 December 2016. On 9 December our directors will host a panel on "Religion im Differenzierungsprozess: Multiple Säkularitäten" (Religion in the Process of Differentiation: Multiple Secularities) at this workshop.
